RADIO OPERATOR
REPORTING:
Reports to the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM)
SUPERVISION:
None
LOCATION:
Offshore location
PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Valid Marine Radiotelephone or equivalent certificate
· Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
· Basic computer skills
· Valid GMDSS License
BASIC FUNCTION:
· Operate rig communication equipment and answers phones. Carry out clerical duties such as filing and typing as directed
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations/Maintenance:
· Receive and transmit messages between rig and shore bases, supply vessels, helicopters, and other stations by radio-telephone
· Operate all communication equipment in the radio room and ensure they are well maintained and operational
· Maintain a radio watch on maritime and aeronautical emergency frequencies
· Maintain records/logs of all radio communications to and from the rig. Keep records of telephone charges from the installation (if applicable)
· Ensure the maintenance of all electronic navigational aids where applicable
· Test the standby radio equipment SARTS and Epirbs and the radio equipment in the lifeboats as required by RMS. These tests to include checking of the radio room batteries
· Advise the OIM of any emergency situations within the vicinity of the installation
· Inform the Helicopter Landing Officer and control room of all intended helicopter traffic to the rig
· Establish and maintain radio contact with helicopter traffic to and from the rig. Advise pilots of landing clearances, meteorological conditions, etc and record in the helicopter movement log
· Coordinate and control the isolation of radio equipment during periods of radio silence
· Assist with the embarkation and disembarkation of all passengers and briefings as required
· Assist with the maintenance of GMS POB modules as required
· Assist the RSTC with the tracking of START cards on a daily basis
QHSE:
· Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
· Participate in START process
· Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned
· hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
· Carry out assigned duties in a safe manner according to company policies and procedures
· Participate in emergency drills and respond to emergency situations as per designation on station bill
· Become familiar with the rig’s emergency and medical evacuation procedures
· Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to the supervisors
· Attend the weekly safety meeting
Administrative/Personnel:
· Meet the training requirements according to the applicable training matrix
· Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
· Provide clerical/administrative support to the OIM as required
· Promote and maintain a good working relationship with other departments, third party personnel and Client Representative
· Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with company disciplinary procedures
· Maintain an up to date personnel on board and room assignment lists, where applicable
· Prepare timesheets for personnel onboard in accordance with payroll procedures
· Maintain strict confidentiality of all work performed including well data, payroll information, crew lists, add personal data including contact information relative to rig’s crew
