N. Pharr Smith
Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services

Pharr Smith is Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services for Transocean Ltd. In this role, he oversees the company’s engineering services, marine support, upgrade and major repair project management, and maintenance and field support services.

Mr. Smith joined Transocean after a 10-year career at GlobalSantaFe, where he most recently served as Vice President of Technical Operations.  He started as Director of Engineering with the company in 1997 and held positions of increasing responsibility until his promotion to Vice President in 2001.

Mr. Smith began his career at Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans as a naval architect in the hull design department.  He joined Marathon LeTourneau in 1981 where he held various positions including Manager of Engineering in the Brownsville shipyard, Vice President of Engineering in the Houston office, and Vice President of the Marine Group in Longview, Texas, with responsibility for the company’s engineering, parts sales, and offshore service functions.  In 1993, he joined Friede & Goldman, Ltd. where he served as Vice President providing design and engineering services to the offshore and commercial shipping industries.

Mr. Smith earned his BSE and MSE degrees in Naval Architecture from the University of Michigan.
