N. Pharr Smith
Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services
Pharr Smith is Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services for Transocean, Ltd. In this role, he oversees the company’s engineering services, marine support, upgrade and major repair project management, maintenance and field support services, and new construction activities.
Mr. Smith has been with Transocean and its legacy companies for the past 13 years. He joined Santa Fe International as Director of Engineering in 1997 and was named Vice President of Technical Operations for GlobalSantaFe in 2001.
Mr. Smith began his career at Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans as a naval architect in the hull design department in 1979. He joined Marathon LeTourneau in 1981 where he held various positions including Manager of Engineering in the Brownsville shipyard, Vice President of Engineering in the Houston office, and Vice President of the Marine Group in Longview, Texas, with responsibility for the company’s engineering, parts sales, and offshore service functions. In 1993, he joined Friede & Goldman, Ltd. where he served as Vice President providing design and engineering services to the offshore and commercial shipping industries.
Mr. Smith earned his BSE and MSE degrees in Naval Architecture from the University of Michigan, and he is a graduate of the Rice University Jones Graduate School Executive Management Program.
