Life offshore is not for everyone, but for those who are looking for a challenging career it’s an incredible life style.  Normal work schedule is 14 day on the rig and 14 days off.   Typically travel to and from the rig is by helicopter, but under certain circumstances may be by boat.  Safety is our primary focus offshore, therefore the first activity after arrival on any of Transocean’s installations is a safety briefing.   The safety briefing will familiarize each new crew member with various safety equipment locations, ships alarms and safety procedures.   After the safety briefing you will be assigned a room, personal protective equipment as required and will be introduced to your immediate supervisor. While onboard daily laundry service will be available and meals will be provided at 6am, 12pm, 6pm and 12am.  Each meal will feature several hot and cold entree choices.  Accommodations on all of our installations are clean and comfortable with satellite TV and in-house movies available in most rooms.  Rooms are cleaned and beds made daily by the catering company staff.  Work-out facilities are available.  Communications from offshore have improved over the years.  Access to the internet and personal e-mail is available and telephones are available for calls home. A typical work day consists of a 12 hour shift which starts with a daily safety meeting to discuss the activities of the day.  During the work day you will be allowed time for a mid day meal and 2 coffee/tea breaks.   Smoking although allowed on the rig is restricted to designated areas only.  With the exception of personal hygiene items, everything that you will need for working offshore with Transocean will be provided by the company.
