Transocean makes safety a fundamental aspect of what we do -- the safety of our people and everyone associated with our operations; the protection of the environment; and the operational integrity of our equipment. We firmly believe that we can conduct our operations in an incident-free environment -- all the time, everywhere. We intend to achieve that vision.
Also, Transocean works side by side with clients, host governments, regulators, vendors, scientists and the public on environmental initiatives. These efforts include a world-class scientific research project studying marine life worldwide and major recycling projects. In addition, the company is a 50% joint venture owner of the world's most experienced scientific coring drillship. Our involvement in these and other efforts is aimed at better understanding of the marine environment and natural resources not only for our company and the offshore petroleum industry but also for the benefit of the worldwide scientific community and education-based organizations. Please read more about these ongoing efforts and watch the videos that bring them to life.

On July 8, 2008, Transocean became a member of the Corporate Eco Forum to further develop the company’s corporate responsibility strategy and engage in best practice discussions with companies outside the oil and gas industry sector.
The Corporate Eco Forum (CEF) is an invitation-only gathering of senior executives from Global 500 corporations that take Corporate and Environmental Responsibility seriously. The forum is based upon a concept that combines development research related to corporate environmental strategy, best practices that realize real-world benefits to the company and its employees and a chance to engage in open dialogue with an expanded group of world leading companies.
Transocean joins a group of companies that, among others, include Duke Energy, Coca Cola, Unilever, Microsoft, General Motors and Goldman Sachs. Membership spans many different sectors from software to finance to manufacturing. Transocean is the first member to join from the oil and gas sector.
Over the coming year Transocean will work with members of the group and group staff to drive collective understanding, implementation of eco strategies and tools, and stimulate innovation for mutual benefit. We look forward to watching this unique group grow.
