Transocean has been collecting emissions data from its operations for more than four years, and we continue to evaluate ways that we can further reduce our impact footprint. Each year we develop a company environmental performance plan. For the last two years this plan has ranked emissions as our top priority.
We externally report our global emissions figures and our corporate strategy on climate change according to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) standards, and we have reported with this group since 2004. The CDP is the world’s largest carbon reporting initiative, representing many Fortune 500 companies and more than $57 trillion of signatory investors. We see great importance in working with the CDP to understand ways in which we can continue to reduce our footprint, covering everything from energy efficiency in our offices to our supply chain activities. Find out more at www.cdproject.net or see our latest CDP report at: CDP 2009 Response.pdf
Small changes can make a big difference when you focus your efforts across the whole company. At Transocean we recognize that it is our people who make the real difference, and we continue to provide information and raise awareness on how we can reduce our energy footprint both at work and at home.
Using power management plans on rigs offshore, we look for ways to streamline the running of our engines to increase their efficiency and reduce overall fuel consumption. We also continue to collect real-time emissions and engine performance data from a number of rigs to help profile the relationship between rig operation, engine performance and overall emissions. This important work is the foundation for our short-, medium- and long-term strategy on emissions reduction.
