Electrician
North American Division

REPORTING:
Reports to the Chief Electrician.

SUPERVISION:
None.

LOCATION:
Offshore location.

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.
- Knowledge of all technical calculations required for electrical operation of the drilling unit and basic computer skills.


BASIC FUNCTION:
- Assist the Chief Electrician in the installation, maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment onboard the rig.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations/Maintenance:
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Comply with the permit to work and isolation system.
- Carry out periodic maintenance according to the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) guidelines and coordinate same with supervisor and other department heads.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair all power generation and distribution equipment, i.e. generators and engine controls, SCRs, switchgears, transformers, et cetera.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of general rig equipment such as HVAC system, refrigeration plants, communication systems, lighting, et cetera.
- Carry out maintenance and repair on electrical components of drilling equipment, i.e. Driller’s console, DC drilling motors and auxiliaries, Top Drive System, drawworks, mud pumps, et cetera.
- Carry out maintenance and repair on electrical components of marine equipment, i.e. thruster motors and auxiliaries, ballast pumps, control panels, cranes, et cetera.
- Install new equipment as required, with regards to electrical wiring, fixtures and junction boxes, et cetera.
- Assist in performing and interpreting power calculations, power factor, insulation tests, and positive relay tests as required.
- Study and understand electrical schematics as required.
- Maintain an adequate supply of spares in order to fulfill maintenance requirements – inform Chief Electrician when there is need to re-order.
- Inform supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig.
- Assist with the implementation of the outstanding recommendations from audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management.
- Ensure that reports for repair and maintenance of equipment are accurate and complete.
- Assist in supplying information for maintenance and repair budget.
- Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to Field Support Group.


QHSE:
- Carry out assigned duties in a safe manner according to Company policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre job meetings as required.
- Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisor and other department heads.
- Respond to emergency situations as per designation on station bill.
- Assist in preparing Job Safety Analysis for hazardous situations.
- Ensure all relevant safety procedures and practices are adhered to during mechanical maintenance work
- Assist in ensuring a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig.
- Ensure regulatory requirements for environmental protection are complied with.
Personnel:
- Meets the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix
- Assist with the supervision and training of the Electrical Trainee.
- Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures
